The survey was recently announced by Premier Wab Kinew following similar discussions across Western Canada. The province is seeking public feedback to determine whether to keep or end the traditional biannual time-change practice.
Three voting choices:
The provincial consultation lays out three clear paths for the future of timekeeping:
- Permanent daylight saving time: Keeps later summer sunsets but results in late winter sunrises (after 9 am in Winnipeg).
- Permanent standard time: Offers earlier winter sunrises but shifts summer sunsets an hour earlier (around 8:40 pm in June).
- Status quo: Continues the current system of switching clocks.
