MANSCETT, now CTTAM, was incorporated on October 28, 1965, with 39 chartered registrants.

1965

Russ Hood, P Eng.

Russ Hood, P Eng., was directly involved in the creation of the Manitoba Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (MANSCETT).

1966

First employee hired


In 1966, MANSCETT hired its first part-time employee, Irene Hyland. Irene would later become MANSCETT’s first Assistant Registrar.

1968

A year of firsts


In 1968:

  • Our first newsletter, the MANSCETTER, is published;
  • The first woman joins MANSCETT and
  • Sixty-two people respond to our first-ever salary survey. The median annual salary is $7,560.

1969

Technology ring offered

Official ring first offered. The ring costs $12 and is sterling silver.

1970

CCTT charter member

MANSCETT becomes a charter member of the Canadian Council of Engineering Technicians and Technologists, later know nas the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT).

Benefits arranged

Group life insurance and an income protection plan become available for registrants.

1971

Scholarship program rolled out

A $100 scholarship is given to the most successful, first-year student in the Red River Community College technology division.

First student registrant

Student, Teresa Jaworski, added to our registrant lists.

1972

Registrant milestone

John Roschuk, C.E.T., becomes MANSCETT’s 500th member.

1973

Technology ring changes

Our ring is now available in white gold for $22, sterling silver for $12.50 and nickel for $10.00. The nickel version disappears in 1976 and by 1981, only the sterling ring is available for $30.

1974

Registrar appointed

MANSCETT appoints its own full-time registrar. With this change, the Association of Professional Engineers of Manitoba’s official involvement in MANSCETT ends.

1975

Office relocates

Our office moves to Suite 5 – 1767 Portage Avenue.

1977

Registrant levels

Two levels of certification supported:

  • Engineering Technologist and
  • Engineering Technician.

Code of Ethics adopted

Our Code of Ethics outlines our values and the ethical conduct that registrants should possess and follow.

1980

Congratulations!

Debbie Lee Marcynuk becomes the first female scholarship winner.

1981

Registration hits 1,000 strong

MANSCETT welcomes R.D. MacKenzie as their 1,000th registrant.

1983

Step forward for legal recognition

Professional liability insurance offered to registrants, a big step in the quest for legal recognition.

1987

First computer

The first computer installed in our office

1989

Manitoban elected

Seaford Jack, C.E.T., is the first Manitoban elected president of CCTT.

1990

Registration grows

We now have 1,750 registrants.

1994

Office moves

MANSCETT moves to 602 – 1661 Portage Avenue.

1996

MANSCETT becomes CTTAM

Board passes motion to change MANSCETT name to the Certified Technicians and Technologists of Manitoba (CTTAM).

Technology Act proposal

Proposed Technology Act readied for submission to the Manitoba government. Right to title articles are published in our newsletter.

Applicant requirements

All applicants for certification are required to write a law and ethics examination as a requisite for certification.

Technology camp for young women


CTTAM funded, Girls exploring trades and technology camp takes place for grade 7 and 8 female students to learn about career options.

1997

Inaugural golf tournament

Our first annual golf tournament held. This is still an annual event.

June 29, 1998

The Certified Applied Science Technologists Act becomes law

Act is passed by the Manitoba Legislature and received royal assent.

1999

National job site launches

The Canadian Technical Employment Network (CTEN) opens for registrants.

Agreement signed

An agreement known as the Ottawa Intent is signed by CCTT in Sydney, Australia, which is the first step to furthering the transferability of Canadian Technologist internationally. CCTT, which is a signatory, is the only non-engineering national association.

2004

Manitoba Robot Games

We sponsor the Manitoba Robot Games for the first time.

2005

First woman President

Nathalie C. Emond, C.E.T., B.Sc., becomes the 33rd president and the first woman to hold this position.

40th anniversary celebrated

We celebrate our 40th Anniversary with a Ruby Gala and Awards Dinner at the Fairmont Winnipeg. More than 300 people attend.

CCTT national conference

CTTAM hosts the CCTT National Annual Conference.

2006

M-T Limited License

The Electricians’ License Act E-50 is amended to provide for the Technologist/Technician License classification.

Mission statement adopted

To safeguard the public interest by the certification and governance of our professional members in the application of national standards of applied science technology.

New evaluation tool

The Panel of Examiners gains a new tool for evaluating internationally-trained applicants. CCTT’s Foreign Qualifications Assessment program evaluates schools all around the world.

Westman robotics workshop

Sponsored by CTTAM and ACC, the first annual Westman robotics workshop is held at Assiniboine Community College. 

2007

Founding member granted honorary membership

Cy Howard, P. Eng., who helped to establish CTTAM and also served as Member Representing the Public on the Board of Directors for seven years, is awarded an honorary membership.

Inaugural wind turbine competition

CTTAM, RRC and Skills Manitoba (Canada) establish an annual wind turbine competition for junior high students.

2009

Salary survey

Our most comprehensive salary survey to date, with 1,092 responses and a median wage of $65,000.

Provincial bodies leave CCTT

Four provincial bodies withdraw from CCTT. CTTAM, along with PEI, NB, NL and NS remain involved. Quebec had withdrawn earlier.

2011

Registrant named CCTT Chair

Robert D. Okabe, C.E.T., FEC (Hon.), IntET (Canada), is elected chair of CCTT.

2012

Skills Canada (Manitoba) partnership

We partner with Skills Canada (Manitoba) to bring the idea of a technology career to the classroom.

2015

50th Anniversary

Our organization has approximately 3,300 registrants.

Certified registrants post a median wage of $75,000.

CTTAM partners with Alberta Retired Teachers’ Association to provide a benefit program for our retired members.

July 2021

NTC website launched

Engineering Technology Canada launched a National Technology Gateway website. Provides info for Canadian graduates, internationally educated, experienced practitioners and Canadian Armed Forces about the certification process, registration requirements in general and province-specific information.

Terry Gifford Scholarship Award established

Terry Gifford was formerly a CTTAM Executive Director.

Change to certification requirement

Internationally-educated applicants no longer required to have one-year of Canadian work experience requirement.

Change in title

Members are now called registrants to better reflect our role in certifying technology and applied sciences professionals in Manitoba.
